Introduction to Data Recovery
April 8, 2023
Things You’ll Need:
- Gull
- Confidence
- An Internet Connected Device
- Patience and Time
- Screwdrivers
- Common Sense
- Gloves
- Probably Parts
The most important thing to know in data recovery:
- DO NOT WRITE OVER ANY LOST OR DELETED DATA. (IN OTHER WORDS, DO NOT CREATE ANY NEW DATA ON THE PROBLEMATIC DRIVE).
- DO NOT DO ANY WORK ON THE ORIGINAL HARD DRIVE, ALWAYS, AGAIN ALWAYS, MAKE A CLONE OF THE ORIGINAL BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH ANY WORK.
- RECORDING KEEPING IS KEY, ALWAYS, ALWAYS KEEP A RECORD OF THE WORK YOU DO AND THE CONDITION THE DEVICE ARRIVES IN.
- ALWAYS INFORM THE CUSTOMER OR CLIENT THERE IS NO GUARNTEES WITH DATA RECOVERY AND GENERALLY WE CANNOT CONFIRM WHAT DATA IS ON THE DRIVE BEFORE WE START WORKING AND THEREFOR ANY DATA RECOVERED IS CONSIDERED A SUCCESSFULL RECOVERY.
Question: What do you mean by writing data? Answer: Writing Data to a drive is the same as creating or inputting data on a drive.
Question: What is a drive? Answer: A drive is a letter on your computer such as C:/ drive or E:/, D:/, and so on. The drive letter corresponds to a device plugged in or virtually input on that drive such as a hard drive or connected device. In some cases, it can even be a software or program input on the drive.
Procedure For Data Recovery
- Inspect Drive For Damage & Record Damage As Well As The State Of The Drive And/Or Device.
- Attempt Or Successfully Clone The Drive
- If The Drive Does Not Have Power, Locate The Board Or Mechanism Used For Providing Power and Replace It Such As A Power Board Or The Culprit May Be The Power Source Prior To The Hard Drive Such As A Wall Outlet Or Power Supply Unit.
- If The Drive Receives Power But The Computer Cannot Locate The Drive, Clone The Drive & Run Software To Locate The Missing Information.
- If the Drive Cannot Be Found and The Data Cannot Be Located, Swapping The Outer Casing of The Drive With A New One May Be Necessary To Get The Hard Drive Disk To Read. We Do Not Recommend Any Attempt To Open Or Change Parts On A Hard Drive, This Is Solely Informational.
